“ O H P L E A S E. you expect me to think you’re different
from all of these other guys? don’t think that i’m another
dumb blonde. i know what you’re thinking: ‘she’s easy to
get over on.’ that’s the only reason you’re showing any
interest in me at all. give me a break, McCall. you’re not
different. you’re just like the rest of them. ”
the blonde strands of hair that weren’t held back by the white headband she wore
whipped around towards the dark skinned boy standing behind her at her locker.
she was being honest in her answer because she knew that boys who got close to
her would use her because she was head cheerleader, popular, blonde, and pretty.
that was their definition of E A S Y. it made her uncomfortable when she and scott
began to get closer—not because she didn’t like him as a person, but because she
was afraid.
gentle & pale fingers twisted the black knob that kept her locker closed, not saying a
word to the boy standing behind her. he seemed to be trying to think of something to
say to make her change her mind. that was going to be very hard for him to do. maybe
she was being too rough on him? he seemed like a sweet boy? and—-whenever she
was around him, it felt like it was just the two of them. immediately, though, she would
shake off that impossible idea. no. never scott mccall. he’s just like the others.
gripping onto the textbook and placing it in the crevice in her arm was no problem, but
once he spoke his words of admiration, she felt like grabbing her notebook was like
trying to grab a burning hot brownie pan with six dozens brownies in it. katerina’s body
obviously tensed up especially in her shoulders, causing her posture to shift from good
stance to a posture of great royalty. he—he was being serious? it was impossible, this
was just a dare, that’s all. some stupid dare given to him by the lacrosse team. of
course!
icy blue eyes became clearly nervous and glassed over. the metal door slammed shut
with her force against it. she was so confused. it felt like her heart was stopped again &
tampered with. something felt wrong, yet oh so right. she couldn’t let him know yet.
“I——I…”
she couldn’t finish her sentence. katerina was speechless and afraid. she just looked
at him and walked away to her next class. too bad he was in her next class.
